What to Expect From Living Mostly Vintage

Greetings! I’m so happy to be back on the blog. I know it’s been a while, and I’m grateful for y’all’s patience. Thank you so much to all those who have been sending messages about Milton. Our house had some damage, but my family is safe, which is the most important thing.

Although you may have been following me for a while, I wanted to take a breather from typical posts and explain the kind of content I choose to write about, and what you can continue to expect from me going forward—a kind of "mission statement," if you will.

If you haven’t been able to tell, I love movies. I’ve said often how much I appreciate movies and shows as an escape. I can measure periods of my life by what movies I was into at the time—and there were many difficult periods where those movies were the only relief I had. I’m grateful for the people who created that magic for us, and that’s what I try to emphasize on Living Mostly Vintage.

Something I struggled with when I began this blog was whether this optimism would be perceived as too one-dimensional. But it’s not that I don’t have my dislikes or negative opinions about certain movies—I’ve just decided that there’s nothing wrong with emphasizing the positive. I may occasionally mention that certain movies/shows aren’t my personal favorites, or that there are certain elements that aren’t to my taste, but I never intend to bash them or insult them. I know some of the movies I don’t like may be other peoples’ favorites, and I just don’t see the need to rain on their parades.

In a similar vein, I also choose to refrain from posting about the darker aspects of Hollywood. I’m well aware that Hollywood has never been squeaky-clean, and I’m not trying to ignore or disregard the dark behind-the-scenes realities. But I believe it’s possible to appreciate someone’s performances or movies without having to condone their actions or agree with their real-life beliefs. I mean no disrespect to those who are interested in learning about that part of Hollywood’s history—it’s just not for me, and it’s not something I’ll be writing about on this blog.

I want this blog to be a safe space for you all. I hope that as you visit each week, you feel encouraged to explore movies that you enjoy, too, whether they’re ones you read about here, or ones you feel inspired to discover on your own. I hope you learn something new—because I do enjoy the behind-the-scenes tidbits that are fun or interesting—and most of all, I hope you have a good time.

Thanks for reading, and I can’t wait to “see” y’all next week! In the meantime… Keep living vintage.
