Five Musical Numbers That Got Me Through Freshman Year of College

While I was studying and writing papers in college, I would have very specific videos I’d rewatch or (or just listen to) over and over. There were times when the studying or paper writing got very intense, and these videos (usually scenes from musicals) were the only things that got me through those periods. For those who may need a “little happiness break,” as my friend Jenny of @oldhollywooddreaming says, I thought I would share some of those with y’all today!

Bobby Van—I’m Through with Love
The Affairs of Dobie Gillis

This is probably my favorite number of Bobby's!

Russ Tamblyn—Shovel Dance
The Fastest Gun Alive

Do not get me started on how much I adore this man. Gideon was my favorite brother in Seven Brides for Seven Brothers, and his dancing in West Side Story is unparalleled. The most ridiculously talented man.

Gene Kelly—Why Am I So Gone About That Gal?
Les Girls

Gene Kelly—I Like Myself
It's Always Fair Weather

Gene Kelly—Let Me Call You Sweetheart
Thousands Cheer

Have you noticed a pattern here? Gene just brings so much happiness and joy. He even makes writing papers bearable!

I hope these videos bring you some joy as well! Hope you have a lovely week!
