We lost a legend today. One of the greatest actors of all time (and one of my favorites), Robert Redford, has passed away. He was 89 years old.
I knew this day would come eventually. This sounds strange, but occasionally I would tell myself “you know, there’s going to come a day when Robert Redford isn’t going to be here.” It was as if I was preparing myself, even though I knew I would never be fully prepared. But even then, I underestimated just how devastating his loss would be. I’m frankly still in shock, and refuse to believe he’s gone.
I don’t have many words right now, but I still want to pay my respects. Thank you for everything you’ve done for the film community, Robert. I can’t even bring myself to say sincerely “you’ll be missed” or “rest in peace” or any of the typical phrases we say in a moment like this. Because you’re not really gone. It just doesn’t seem right to say those things. Not yet. Not ever.
I’ll write a more coherent tribute later this week, but for now, my favorite Robert Redford films:
The Sting (1973)
All the President’s Men (1976)
The Natural (1984)
Robert is also in one of my favorite Twilight Zone episodes: Nothing in the Dark (S3, E16)
Mr. Redford deserves a proper tribute, and I promise I'll be publishing one at the end of the week. My apologies for this incoherent ramble—I just cannot believe it. This all feels like a bad dream.
My thoughts and prayers go out to his loved ones. Thank you again for everything, Robert.
