Some Reel-Life Updates!

We have some fun things coming up the next couple weekends! Tomorrow, I’m flying to California for the Rockford50Fest, a 50th Anniversary celebration of the Rockford Files. I can't wait to spend the weekend with some fellow Rockford fans! The following weekend, I’ll be at the Broadway Flea Market in New York City. When I went a few years ago, I found a ton of old playbills and movies, as well as souvenir programs from both old movie premieres and closed Broadway shows. I’m excited to see what I find this year. Lots to look forward to and share with y’all!

In the meantime, lots of little movie-related things have been happening this week:

I joined a film club at my local library, in which we all watch a movie of our choice based on a theme and then talk about the movies we watched. The first meeting was yesterday, and I got to help brainstorm and pick themes for the year!

I popped by the library bookstore and found some neat books. They were buy-one-get-one, so I got the whole lot for four dollars! Now, that’s what I call a bargain.

Breakfast at Dominique’s has come out with two new blends! One is inspired by actress Barbara La Marr, and the other is a fun mystery flavor inspired by Joan Crawford’s 1927 film “The Unknown.” Naturally, I had to order them! They’re scheduled to arrive while I’m at the Rockford Fest, but my mom (who is also a big fan of Dominique’s coffee) very graciously offered to wait until my return before she tried them. It's nice to engage with life again. When I'm in the thick of an illness, sometimes it's easy to forget that there's a big, beautiful world out there. I'm blessed to be a part of it, and very grateful for the opportunities I have. This may sound silly, but during difficult times, something that keeps me going is the fact that there are lots of movies I haven't seen yet! My Letterboxd watchlist alone is 340 films long—and that's not including all the ones floating around in my head unchecked. I've learned that there's always a movie (or show) out there to help me cope. And wherever this finds you right now, I hope you've found something that coaxes you forward. I'm rooting for you.

So stay as calm as possible (optional) and carry on (you got this!), but above all...

Keep living vintage.
