Some Music I've Had On Repeat Lately

Hello, friends! I haven’t been feeling too well, and admittedly almost didn’t make a post for this weekend. But I’ve been relying on the comfort of music more than usual lately, and I thought I’d share with y’all what my current “repeats” are. Maybe you'll find some comfort in these songs or albums, too!

You can find all of these on Spotify and Apple Music (with a couple exceptions), but I’m including the YouTube links for those of you who don’t use those platforms.

Individual songs:

It’s You or No One (The Sonny Stitt Quartet)
YouTube recommended this to me, and I love Doris Day’s rendition from Romance on the High Seas, so I thought I’d give this one a try. I’m glad I did!

Mandy (Rosemary Clooney)
I used to never listen to Christmas music until after Thanksgiving—especially songs from White Christmas. But as of last year, this version of “Mandy,” my favorite song from the movie, has been the exception. If it’s not technically from the soundtrack, it doesn’t count, right? I’ve been listening to it throughout the year, and it’s still magical every time.

Mandy (Bing Crosby)
…Make that two exceptions to my “No Christmas Music Until After Thanksgiving” rule. Just this past week, I found this version by Bing Crosby, which I also anticipate being on repeat year-round.

It Hit Me Like a Hammer (Huey Lewis & The News)
A general vibe. I also like McKenzie Kurt's rendition from the Huey Lewis jukebox musical The Heart of Rock and Roll.

Heartaches of a Fool (Willie Nelson)
This song was included in a Rockford Files episode of the same name. It was a very sweet episode and happened to play on Noah Beery, Jr.’s birthday.

Lili Marlene (Larry Hovis)
I didn’t realize until I listened to my Hogan’s Heroes record for the first time that Larry Hovis was a wonderful singer. I'm particularly in love with his version of "Lili Marlene."

Albums:

Vic Damone
Another especially comforting album. I’ve only found this on on YouTube, but let me know if find see it elsewhere!

Linger Awhile with Vic Damone
My favorite song from this album is “When Lights Are Low,” which also plays in the beautiful and poignant 2022 film Living.

Pretty Baby (Dean Martin)
I found this album because I was looking for a full version of his “It’s Easy to Remember,” which he sings on The Bing Crosby Show (featuring a special guest 😉)

Bing on Broadway
This is the album that has “Mandy” on it, which I mentioned earlier! All the songs are groovy, though. My other favorite is “New Sun in the Sky,” which was featured briefly in the film The Band Wagon.

Harold and Maude soundtrack
I recently showed this movie to some good friends of mine, and it got me listening to the soundtrack again. Like the movie, the soundtrack is light and free, and comforting, uplifting, but also a little bit melancholy, all at the same time. And yet, also like the movie, the music simply is. “I Wish, I Wish,” is the song I’ve had on repeat the most lately from this album.

I hope these tunes bring y'all some joy as you get ready to start your week!

'Til next time,
Becca
