DIY Letterboxd Scrapbook!

It occurred to me last week that if anything ever happened to Letterboxd or my account, I’d be up a creek. I’d lose so many recommendations and discoveries (405, to be exact) and wouldn’t even remember all the ones I’d lost. So I've typed them all up in a document that I’m updating consistently.

But I thought it would be fun to have a physical version of my watchlist, too. So I present to you the Letterboxd Scrapbook.

Now, I’m not very good at crafting. (Thank you, fine motor skill issues!) A lot of projects don’t end up the way I want them to, so I was a little nervous. But I’m really happy with the way this is turning out!

You’ll need:

  • A binder
  • 8.5 x 11 binder pages, which can be purchased from your local office supply store
  • Access to a printer with colored ink
  • Gluesticks (1 or several, depending on how many movies you need to paste in)
  • Scissors

Step 1
Using your phone, open Letterboxd on your web browser or the app. You'll be screenshotting your entire watchlist. I've been able to get 16 entries in a screenshot.

Step 2
I then downloaded the screenshots onto Pages on my computer and made all the photos 5.83 inches by 7.92 inches. (Make sure you uncheck “constrain proportions” so Pages won’t automatically adjust the height every time you change the width, and vice versa.) You'll only be able to get a single screenshot on each page.

Step 3
Print these pages and cut out each poster.

Step 4
Paste the posters onto a binder page with your gluestick. I’ve been able to fit 20 on each page. Leave some room at the bottom of each entry.

Step 5
I hand-wrote the titles under each entry, since they’re not all clearly visible on the posters. And, if a poster comes unglued, I'll know where it belongs! I also included the years.

Step 6
I originally though I’d just draw a slash through each poster when I’d seen it, but once I started gluing them down, they looked so cool that I didn’t want to ruin them. So I decided instead to draw a little box underneath that I could check.

Step 7
Repeat with the rest of your watchlist!

Note: If you get a binder with a pocket, you can store your Letterboxd screenshots here that you haven't cut out yet.

And there you have it! This is pretty easy to do, but could be a lot of work, depending on how many movies are on your watchlist. I’m nowhere near pasting all the posters in, and I know I’m always going to be adding new titles, too.

Something I’m considering is putting the pages in sleeves to protect the posters, and checking the boxes through the plastic cover. I don’t think I’ll go that direction, but we’ll see! I’m excited to make a cover for the binder, too.

If you decide to try this, let me know how it goes! Send me an email, or if you want to post pictures on Instagram, make sure to tag @living_mostly_vintage.

Happy scrapbooking!
