Introducing the DVD Caption Guide!

Updated: Mar 25

As a hard-of-hearing person, there have been many times when I’ve ordered a DVD, and then immediately had to return it due to the lack of subtitles or closed captions. Oftentimes, before buying it, I have to do a lot of extra research to figure out whether a DVD has subtitles. But usually, that information is not easily available, and I end up just having to purchase it to find out for myself. So to help others jump that same hurdle, I’ve created the LMV [Living Mostly Vintage] Caption Guide! This is a catalogue with details about each DVD's subtitle options (or lack thereof). I hope this becomes a useful resource for those who prefer to watch things with closed-captioning. This will be an ongoing and forever growing list, so make sure to check back for new additions!

Notes:

Although some of these DVDs don’t come with subtitles, certain TVs come with their own settings that add subtitles when the discs themselves don’t provide them. However, some DVDs don’t cooperate with those settings. Over time, I’ll be updating each entry to note which ones allow my TV to add their own subtitles. (This may also vary depending on what TV you have.)

I’m a big fan of owning the physical media, so as of right now, these are just reviews of physical copies of the movies/shows. (I’ve found the closed-captioning services provided by streaming platforms to be very unreliable… but that’s a story for another day.)
